Susan Smith has 44 years experience in education. She taught on the Elementary Level for 27 years and on the college level in the School of Education at the University of Arkansas at Monticello. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Arkansas at Monticello, a Masters Degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and is a certified Assistant Principal.
Susan is a Licensed Professional for the Core Knowledge Foundation and is available for many Core Knowledge Training Modules, as well as other half-day workshops. She has been a National Consultant for the Core Knowledge Foundation since 2000. She was also Project Coordinator for the Core Knowledge Preschool Initiative covering the Arkansas Delta region through a Walton Family grant. This involved training teachers in more than 120 preschools in the Arkansas Delta. She also mentored teachers and coordinated testing in the classrooms. Susan was the Pilot Coordinator for the Core Knowledge Language Arts program visiting pilot schools around the country. She assisted with revisions to the Core Knowledge Language Arts program during the three pilot years in Kindergarten through Second Grade.
She has presented at local, state and national conferences in various subject areas. She is a past recipient of a local Teacher of the Year and was selected as an Exemplary Classroom teacher by the Arkansas Department of Education. She has won awards for developing teaching projects on local, state and national levels.
