Classroom mentoring/coaching is also very beneficial to your teachers. I have mentored teachers and observed student teachers for 14 years and the value of coaching is evident. Helping teachers find their strong points and expanding on those, as well as, helping teachers improve upon any weak areas yields very positive results.

Many times a mentoring session will identify very positive things going on in a lesson yet provides suggestions for expanding upon that lesson or strategy. When doing the mentoring session, time can vary according to your intended outcome.

Mentoring can be from a short lesson or activity or just observing during centers to help teachers better interact with students and make this time as productive as possible. Mentoring and Coaching can be the key to success for both skilled and unskilled teachers.
