Schools do not have to be using the entire Core Knowledge Curriculum to benefit from the Best Practices of these trainings.

Phonological Awareness, ABC's and More!

This two-day workshop stresses the importance of phonemic awareness as a readiness for learning to read in Kindergarten. Understanding that individual sounds are associated with letters or a combination of letters is a prerequisite to formal reading instruction. Teachers will learn techniques for teaching children to take-apart and put-together sounds identifying smaller units of sounds. Beginning with environmental sounds and building to sound/symbol association, hearing syllables, and orally blending/segmenting sounds will all be demonstrated by the trainer and practiced by participants.

Scientific Reasoning

This two-day hands-on workshop will instruct participants in methods and strategies for teaching children about the world around them. Using the Scientific Reasoning Cycle, the trainer will demonstrate a unit in the sequence with participants taking part in the experiments and activities. Participants will develop a unit with the trainer's assistance during the workshop.

Mathematical Reasoning

This two-day hands-on workshop will guide participants in methods to promote and foster children's natural interest in numbers. Participants will gain knowledge on helping children transition from the abstract to the concrete in numbers. Concepts will include classifying, sorting, shapes, patterns, counting up, counting down, measure and much more!
